Literacy Bags
Literacy in early childhood is an essential part of growth, giving children the opportunity to flourish.
'Interactive reading with children has been shown to develop a child's oral language that, in turn, promotes phonemic awareness found to strongly predict a child's future success in learning to read.' (Adams, 1990 cited in Hill, 2006).
We have developed kits based on books that in our experience are loved by and engage children. We endeavour to supply kits that plant the seed of interest enabling Educators to engage and explore various concepts with the children they work alongside. We also hope to see literacy bags being shared and borrowed by families where possible.
'Reading within the home works to the educational advantage of all children regardless of their economic, racial, ethnic and educational background' (Epstein, 1996 cited in Persampieri, 2006).
Each Literacy Bag builds the concepts of early literacy development through an engagement of the senses.
We are also happy to work with Educators to meet the needs of their families and we hope to develop variations for parents as part of a future project.
